The Order of Malta continues its tradition of bringing together the faithful and volunteers through the pilgrimage to Loreto – a symbol of hope and unity in anticipation of the Holy Jubilee of 2025.

Loreto, 26 October 2025 — The traditional pilgrimage to the Holy House in Loreto was held from 24 to 26 October, organized by the Sovereign Military Order of Malta under the leadership of the Grand Master Fra’ John T. Dunlap. The event gathered around 1,300 participants from Italy and other countries, including members of the Order, the sick entrusted to their care, and numerous believers.

The pilgrimage forms part of preparations for the Holy Jubilee of 2025, which the Catholic Church marks under the motto “Pilgrims of Hope.” Over three days of spiritual program, participants attended numerous liturgical celebrations, workshops, and prayer activities for both adults and children.

The central event was the solemn Jubilee Mass on 25 October, presided over by Monsignor Fabio Dal Cin, Archbishop of Loreto and Papal Delegate for the Shrine of the Holy House. Pilgrims passed through the Holy Doors – a symbol of conversion, reconciliation, and communion with God and one another.

In his address to the participants, the Grand Master Fra’ John T. Dunlap underlined the importance of spiritual renewal:

“October is the month of the Holy Rosary. Nature reminds us to reap the fruits of what we have sown. We too must let go of what is superfluous and focus on what truly matters.”

A special contribution to the pilgrimage was given by young volunteers of the Order of Malta, recognizable by their red berets. Throughout the pilgrimage they assisted with logistics, distributed water, helped in the refectory and spread joy among participants, contributing to the spirit of unity and solidarity.

The program also included the Way of the Cross in the basilica, the recitation of the Rosary, and a torchlight procession led by Capuchin friars. The concluding Eucharistic Mass was celebrated by Cardinal Gianfranco Ghirlanda, Patron of the Order of Malta, which brought the pilgrimage in Loreto to a close with an Eucharistic procession and blessing.

Among the participants in the pilgrimage was Mr. Valerio Carafa, First Secretary of the Embassy of the Sovereign Military Order of Malta in Montenegro, who, together with members of the Order and volunteers, took part in the program of spiritual renewal and prayer.
