The Embassy of the Sovereign Military Order of Malta in Montenegro hosted an official reception in Podgorica on the occasion of the Feast of Saint John the Baptist, Patron Saint of the Order.

Numerous ambassadors, heads of United Nations agencies, and representatives of Montenegrin institutions, attended the ceremony including the President of Montenegro, H.E. Jakov Milatović, who praised the global work of the Order of Malta and announced the planned official visit of the Grand Master to Montenegro in 2026.
The Order of Malta, as a religious order and subject of international law, today is a medical, social, and humanitarian aid complex structure operating worldwide. Its mission is rooted in nearly a thousand years of tradition.

“Our work in crisis areas such as Gaza, the West Bank, Lebanon, and Ukraine is the result of long-standing dedication and experience,” stated H.E. Narciso Salvo di Pietraganzili, Ambassador of the Sovereign Military Order of Malta. “We especially value the strong ties with Montenegro and look forward to new joint initiatives in the fields of healthcare and social welfare.”

The Order of Malta currently brings together around 13,500 members, 100,000 volunteers, and 60,000 employees who provide daily assistance in the world’s most vulnerable areas.

Diplomatic relations between Montenegro and the Sovereign Military Order of Malta were established in 2006, immediately following Montenegro’s independence, and have since continuously developed through shared values and joint initiatives.
